The story behind Milene Collie

The story behind Milene Collie

I’ve always loved colour and pattern. A few years ago I started playing with digital art, just for fun. I began making designs and turning them into clothes for my husband… and at some point I realised I was basically building full wardrobes for the whole family.

I like clothes and fashion, but not in the runway or trend-chasing way. I don’t watch fashion shows and I don’t shop often. What I do love is creating pieces that feel special and a bit different, without looking like costumes. Milene Collie grew out of that – low-effort, high-colour clothing that’s playful, wearable, and made with intention.

Bold by design

Every print starts as a small idea: a sketch, a plant, an animal pattern, a colour combination from a trip or a random “that would look great on a dress” moment.

From there, I design with a few rules in mind:

  • Everyday first – shapes you can actually live in: t-shirt dresses, relaxed sweaters, yoga shorts, easy tees.

  • Colour without costume – bold enough to stand out, simple enough to throw on with sneakers or sandals.

  • Patterns with personality – animal spots, stripes, abstracts and culture-inspired mixes that don’t fade into the background.

“Bold by design” doesn’t mean loud for the sake of it. It means pieces that quietly do the work for you: you put them on, and suddenly you look put-together, even on a “no energy” day.

Produced with purpose

Milene Collie uses a made-to-order model. That means:

  • Your piece is printed and sewn only after you order, not mass-produced to sit in a warehouse.

  • We avoid overproduction and dead stock, which are huge sources of waste in fashion.

  • Items are fulfilled through carefully selected production partners, mainly in the EU and other regions close to you, to reduce shipping distances where possible.

Is it a perfect system? No. But it’s a more honest one: we produce less, we store less, and we prioritise quality and comfort over chasing trends.

I’ll always be transparent about materials, partners and what we’re improving along the way.

Shared for good

The “Collie” in the name nods to my love for animals, especially those who don’t get a say in the human mess we create around them.

That’s why part of the profits is set aside to support projects that protect wild animals and their habitats. It’s not a marketing line; it’s part of why this brand exists at all. If I’m going to add more things to the world, I want them to help me give something back.

As Milene Collie grows, I’ll share more about the specific organisations and projects we support, and keep you updated on how your orders contribute.

What you can expect when you shop here

When you buy from Milene Collie, you’re getting:

  • Clothes designed to be worn on real days, not just for photos.

  • Prints that carry a bit of playfulness – nature, animals, culture, colour.

  • Pieces made to order, not mass-produced.

  • A small, one-person brand on the other side of the screen who actually reads your messages.

If you’re ever unsure about sizes, fabrics or how something fits into your wardrobe, just email me at info@milenecollie.com. I’d rather help you choose the right piece than have something sit unloved in your closet.
